SEABROOK, TX – May 26, 2011 – For years, residents of Bay Area Houston have craved the taste of a 99 hamburger, a crunchy bombshell and those huge, juicy onion rings. This summer, these hometown favorites will be served up to hungry folks at the newly-restored Tookie's restaurant in Seabrook.
"We are excited about reopening this local icon," said Barry Terrell, new owner of Tookie's and successful proprietor of T-Bone Tom's. "With support and encouragement from the City of Seabrook and the Seabrook Economic Development Corporation, we are in the process of bringing this much-regarded restaurant back to the community." The city and Seabrook EDC provided tax abatements and incentives to offset costs for improvements and operations.
"Having Barry reopen the doors of one of our city's best-known eating establishments is a real treat," stated Ernie Davis, President of the Seabrook Economic Development Corporation. "We are pleased to be able to partner with quality businesses in our city and help them open their doors." The restaurant previously closed following damage sustained during Hurricane Ike in September 2008.
"Seabrook EDC was especially helpful in getting this deal completed," added Terrell. "When our talks with the original owner stalled, the EDC staff worked with both parties to get discussions started again. A big thanks goes to them for helping get this project underway."
Much of the décor will be the same as the prior Tookie's design but with upgrades to make the dining experience even more enjoyable. With an anticipated opening date of July 20, patrons can visit Tookie's at its original spot, located at 1202 Bayport Blvd.
